Haole or local

What does the title mean...
You see, I was born and raised in Hawaii.  While growing up, if you were born and raised there you were considered a local.  Anyone who's from the "mainland" is considered a haole, which jmeans white.  Even if you moved to Hawaii, you're still considered a haole.  My mom teases me that I'm a haole and it really doesn't bother me, it's kind of funny.

I left Hawaii in December of 2001 and have been in the "states" ever since.  Am I still a "local" in the terms of Hawaii or have I been labeled a "haole."  Does it really matter, you might be thinking as you read this...  Georgia is my home for me and my family, it will be for a very long time.

  1. The farmer's tan secures your place in the haole line-up. But you're a Local Haole if that counts.
